Directors and teachers
Miae Shin and Michael Loewy are the founders of Old City Music School and Fairmount Music and Yoga.
Michael Loewy (director)
(Cello, piano, and viola da gamba) studied piano with Irma Wolpe and cello with Maurice Ben Stad. He graduated from Germantown Friends School and received his B.A. at Brandeis University, where he studied cello with Madeline Foley and gamba with Gian Lyman Silbiger and Sarah Cunningham.
He went on to study with Wieland Kuyken at the Brussels Royal Conservatory of Music. He has performed with ensembles and as a soloist in Europe as well as in the area.
He is also a certified Yoga instructor.
Loewy is currently teaching at Germantown Friends School, The Philadelphia School and Old City Music School.
Miae Shin (director)
Shin studied cello at the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore where she studied with Lawrence Lesser and Stephen Kates, and later with Orlando Cole in Philadelphia.
She was principal cellist of the Haddonfield Symphony as well as appearing as soloist with orchestras.
(Certified Suzuki Piano, violin and cello) from Ithica College and Catholic University and has taught Suzuki as well as traditional methods for over 30 years.
She is also a certified Kinder Muzik teacher from West Minster College.
